Welcome to the website of the Inter-Institutional Postgraduate Studies Programme "Management in Marine Science and Technology," a Programme established through the collaboration of the Department of Maritime Studies of the University of Piraeus and the Hellenic Naval Academy — the two educational institutions with the longest-standing tradition in studies in the fields of management and technology in shipping.

01

PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION (DPMS)

The Hellenic Naval Academy, in collaboration with the University of Piraeus, has offered since the 2020–2021 academic year a Postgraduate Studies Programme titled

"Marine Science & Technology Management," with the following specializations:

"Maritime Science Management and Economics" and

"Maritime Technology Management."

The duration of studies in the DPMS leading to the award of the Postgraduate Diploma (ΔΜΣ) is set at two (2) teaching semesters of full-time study.

The Programme aims to provide its graduates with knowledge and skills at the postgraduate level in the fields of Administration and Management in Marine Science and Technology, so that they can understand, manage, and make decisions on critical administrative and techno-economic matters in the operation of shipping businesses and activities.

Admitted to the Programme, following selection, are holders of a first-cycle degree from a Higher Education Institution (AEI) in the University and Technological Sector — from Schools of Economics, Science and Technology, and Business Administration (equivalent tertiary-education institutions are legally included) — graduates of Higher Military Educational Institutions (ΑΣΕΙ), of the Coast Guard Ensigns Academy — Hellenic Coast Guard, as well as graduates of corresponding and equivalent Military Academies abroad. Also admitted are graduates of Merchant Marine Academies (AEN) and Higher Schools of the Security Forces, in accordance with applicable legislation.

02

DPMS DESCRIPTION

The Inter-Institutional Postgraduate Studies Programme (DPMS) titled "Management in Marine Science and Technology" has as its object the provision of theoretical, practical, analytical, and synthetic knowledge and skills at the postgraduate level in the fields of Administration and Management in Marine Science and Technology, so that its graduates can understand, manage, and make decisions on critical administrative, economic, technical, and techno-economic matters in the operation of shipping businesses and activities.

MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR OF THE DPMS

Dear students,

We welcome you to the Postgraduate Studies Programme "Management in Marine Science and Technology – DINET." DINET combines and draws upon the tradition, expertise, and experience of the Department of Maritime Studies of the University of Piraeus and of the Hellenic Naval Academy in the fields of management and technology in shipping, respectively. Your studies in the Programme will equip you with the necessary analytical and synthetic abilities, with scientific specialization, and with the theoretical and practical knowledge that will serve as assets for a professional career in shipping or for further studies and research.

DINET is based in the world-renowned and far-reaching maritime center of Piraeus, the shipping capital that hosts the most dynamic maritime cluster in Europe. Rapid technological advancement, particularly in the field of Information Technology, and the need for the businesses of the maritime cluster to integrate and harness this development, creates demand for scientific professionals specialized in management and technology in shipping. DINET aspires to become a dynamic element of the Piraeus maritime cluster by training these professionals.

An element that distinguishes DINET and makes it unique is the utilization of the complementary expertise, infrastructure, and human resources of two widely recognized education providers in Shipping and Piraeus, as well as the connections these institutions maintain with the living world of shipping, its businesses, and its organizations. In addition, the enrollment in the Programme of university graduates from various disciplines, as well as of graduates of the Hellenic Naval Academy, constitutes a further element of uniqueness, as it enables the utilization of knowledge and experience from different scientific fields.

Another important feature of the Programme is its connection with the world of shipping and its institutions. This feature makes it possible to provide a significant number of scholarships to students, as well as to carry out activities that bring the Programme closer to the needs of the productive sector it supports, such as lectures by executives, visits to businesses and ships, and educational voyages aboard ships.

The above elements create the best conditions for fulfilling the Programme's mission. Of course, a necessary prerequisite for this is your own effort. In this effort, the faculty and administrative staff of DINET will be by your side.

Best of success to you all!

Associate Professor Yiannis LagoudisDirector of the PMS
